Xcom 2 Alien Hunters Arcon King Death

As we are getting closer to the launch date of the Alien Hunters DLC, May 12 (May 13), more content is revealed from the upcoming update for XCOM 2. I just downloaded Alien Hunters, and tried it on an Ironman run on Commander difficulty. Things were going great - a series of perfect missions, etc. until the rulers started messing up my strategies. I did manage to kill the Viper King fairly quickly - though his very last move prevented me from accomplishing a covert op, resulting in a 'major breakthrough', which sent me scrambling to.

This is my first run-through on WOTC, and it was going pretty well. I was doing light save-scumming, but hadn't had a single unit die from anything other than my own impatience (which required me to save-scum.) Then things changed. Then came the Archon King.I can't remember if I had this DLC when I played the first time through.

I'm pretty certain that I remember the Beserker Queen, and the armor that comes from her, but I'm only like 85% certain. Even more, I have no recollection of the Archon King.

So this was one big, unhealthy surprise. He was the first royal I encountered (the only to date, as well.) I came across him in an assault, and just kept having my team destroyed. I had magnetic weapons and no armor, and he was cutting through everyone like butter. After three reloads, I just finished the mission without activating his pod.I should have been better prepared the next time I found him.

Still no armor (well, one unit had armor), but plasma now. But I didn't expect him.

I should have listened to Central's 'we have satellite surveillance, so there will be no surprises' with a grain of salt. The first surprise was the first Andromedon of the game. No big deal, I'd set up a really nice ambush for him. Took his team out, and he ran back to another pod of aliens (visible with the satellite.) They didn't activate, and a few turns later he came back and I destroyed him.Only then did I see the Archon King in the distance. I tried everything. Send a concealed unit up for squadsight, but I only had one sniper and she couldn't do much.

I had no explosives left (used'm on robots), nor did I have special ammo. All I could do was pick at him.

With his armor, I was doing about 3-4 damage per shot. I kept reloading whenever I was down to 2 units, and never managed to take him down below 72 damage, or kill more than 1 of his Archon followers. I couldn't believe that the frost grenade only lasted one action, especially since it was on my grenadier, which meant I was giving up a strong attack on him to freeze him then take off 3-4 damage.I said screw it, and just reloaded back to when I returned from the prior mission. This time, instead of a the vanilla supply raid, it was a WOTC supply raid, with the Advent trying to rescue the crates. Lots of lost.

Which worked out well. I cleared out the Advent and set up a big kill zone. Basically, my guys were all up in the windows of 3 buildings surrounding a courtyard to draw the stupid King into. I had rounds that did damage over time, and had saved all my explosives.

I was ready.Didn't need to be, though. I triggered the Archon King with my brand new SPARK, which they immediately took down, but at least I shredded half his armor.

One of the plain Archons got loose and took out one of my top 5 soldiers. But the King? He grabbed a Lost and shot up into the sky. But he was underneath the elevated train, and got stuck in it. Stuck, or cheesed, because he couldn't move, or use a turn. Lost only spawned on that elevated, so about 1 out of every 10 or so would run down the train and to him.

Occupy white walls steam. The current version is entirely free (with purchasable items planned later), and contains a decent range of building blocks to assemble your gallery from, along with a bunch of masked mannequin figures to act as your avatar. An early trailer hangs below.Occupy White Walls has been floating around for a while, but today’s Steam release is the closest it’s had to a grand public opening. You’re free to poke around anyone else’s gallery – this is a social MMO after all – and leave comments and thoughts on each art piece before or after ‘purchasing’ it.

The rest were overwatched by my team. First, a Lost ran in and smacked him, making him drop the other Lost. Now there were two. Each turn, they'd smack him, maybe he got 1 damage, maybe 2. 30+ turns later, he had 6 or 7 surrounding him, slapping him every turn. When he got to 15 damage I figured it was safe and sent two soldiers to finish him off.Yes, I lost my shiny new SPARK, and yes, I lost a great soldier, I killed nearly 200 Lost in the process, and don't have to deal with that jerk again. Normally I might call such a strategy cheap, but I really, really, absolutely DESPISE the Archon King.

I restarted an entire game in the past just so I could disable the alien hunters DLC after he wiped my squad. So I support killing that bastard in any way. While it couldn’t save me from the Archon King, I was able to one-shot the Beserker Queen with a specialist using a repeater on her assault rifle. I would especially recommend giving repeaters to soldiers with abilities that let them fire more than once a turn. 5-20% chance to instakill may seem like it’s not worth it, but using them has saved me from at least a couple of squad wipes.
