The latest game in id Software's beloved FPS franchise, is entering into Early Access on Steam this coming Tuesday, August 22.Currently in closed beta, the game will be made available both through Steam and through publisher Bethesda's own launcher, with Early Access available for £20/$30 USD, a discount on the projected final retail price of £30/$40 USD. Shelling out earns you the Champions Pack, which contains all current and future Champions, as well as a new addition - the DOOM Slayer from id's other big franchise. There's also three exclusive loot chests, an exclusive skin for Rangers and a guarantee that 'at least' six new Champions will be released between now and the end of 2018. While Studio Director Tim Willitts is keen to reinforce that the Early Access version of Quake Champions is a 'work in progress,' the developers have detailed a bevy of additional content incoming with the relaunch - including new maps and customisation options, Rune Challenges and a Lore System that will allow players to earn high-end skins, plus improved tutorials and the addition of in-game voice chat. The free-to-play version was also discussed, with the promise that it will follow 'at a later date'. For current beta players who want to hop in without paying anything, they will be able to continue playing when free-to-play launches - albeit only through launcher - and will be able to pay to upgrade at any time.
Any new players will need to either pay up for Early Access or wait for free-to-play. There's no word on projected release dates for the full version of the game, but expect to hear more as Early Access gets underway. Walkthrough test. In the meantime, take a look at after playing a preview build of the game.
