Digital BreakoutsThis game was created with students in grades 3-6 in mind. It is meant to be an enrichment and/or teamwork activity for Science topic: Simple Machines. It directly relates to VA Standard:The student will investigate and understand simple machines and their uses. Key concepts includea) purpose and function of simple machines;b) types of simple machines;c) compound machines; andd) examples of simple and compound machines found in the school, home, and work environments.Digital Breakout games are similar to escape rooms and physical breakout games, except they can be played without physical locks and boxes.

This digital breakout is in the form of a Google Site.Embedded on the Site is a Google Form which serves as the locks and clues (weblinks, google drawings, images, videos, docs, etc.).You will need to provide students with the web link to access the digital breakout game which is provided in the paid download.Digital breakouts require critical thinking/problem solving, communication, collaboration, and creativity.Encourage your students to work together as a team. Computer tycoon guide. You may want to go over positive teamwork skills before they start the activity. Most Breakout activities involve competing against the clock (45 mins-1 hour) or competing against teams within the classroom environment.

I suggest displaying a countdown timer from YouTube on the Active/Smartboard while students compete.I suggest giving students a “hint” card and the team can decide to play or not play it as necessary if they find themselves stuck on a certain clue. One of the best features of these critical thinking activities is that students rely on their teammates for help (not the teacher). The teacher’s role should be as facilitator- setting up the game experience, providing direction, and tech-help, but not providing curriculum, content, and strategy help.Once you purchase the product and have the website link- you can bookmark the site and use the activity as many times as you would like. Please keep in mind that it is a web-based activity. If at any time a link becomes broken or content fails to appear, please email us right away at edusisters@gmail.com and as long as we have our TPT webstore, we will be willing to fix the links as quickly as possible.Google Form- The locks are embedded as a Google Form.

Keep in mind that you will not be able to see student submissions. Therefore if you would like students to have a completed product to turn into you or take home, you will want to also pass out the paper-copy of the locks and manually check the answers.
